Which frameworks to use for sustainability reporting?
September 20, 2021Collecting ESG data for sustainable development reporting.
September 8, 2022Preparing a sustainable development report can be simple.
As stakeholder awareness grows, their expectations regarding sustainable development reports continue to rise. At the same time, the number of organizations that see great added value in sharing this kind of information is increasing. It shows not only how the organization operated in the past but, above all, how it is prepared for the future.
Is it possible to efficiently and quickly gather data and prepare a report? Yes, it is.
The key is proper preparation
It’s no revelation to state that the more energy we devote to preparing a project, the more efficiently we will implement it.
In the case of a sustainable development report, we need to answer three seemingly simple questions:
- Which areas and data should/can we include in it?
- Where will we find this data within our organization?
- How quickly and effectively will we collect and aggregate it across the organization for the report’s purposes?
For the first point, determining the scope of data involves consultations with our organization’s stakeholders. Using a standard will assist us in systematizing the data they expect. It’s easiest to use a tool that includes the entire standard with all areas, indicators, questions, and hints necessary to gather the data.
The second point requires some effort on our part – we need to identify all organizational units and people within them who have the data we need. We won’t avoid changes during the project, so the tool we use must provide full flexibility in personnel changes.
The third point might be the simplest of all if we have the right tool. But it can also be the hardest and longest if we want to do it manually.
and the right tool.
Thanks to the use of a specialized tool (such as Diaphane), we will have the entire process under control:
- Real-time progress monitoring
- Flexible changes related to reporting individuals without delaying the whole process
- Automatic and error-free data aggregation with the accuracy we choose
Good project preparation and the right tool are the keys to efficiently gathering all the necessary data and preparing the report itself. Using the Diaphane tool, we have the entire process in one place, fully controlled from start to finish:
- We model the organizational structure and assign users to it (whom we can change at any time).
- We choose from ready-made indicators those that are important for our organization.
- We collectively send out surveys for selected indicators.
- We monitor the progress of work and respond to potential delays.
- We automatically generate a report from the collected data.
